Move around a map

To see your current position, select Options > My position. If there is no active GPS connection, Maps shows either your last known position or an estimated position using your cellular network. If your device supports cellular network positioning you can activate it by selecting Tools > Turn positioning on.

To move around a map, scroll up, down, left or right using the scroll key or the information area at the top of the screen. To change the map type, select Options > Map mode.

When you scroll to an area that is not covered by your saved maps, a new map is downloaded automatically if you have an active data connection. New maps are saved automatically to your device or compatible memory card.

You don’t need a data connection to browse maps that are already stored on your device or memory card. Map coverage varies by country and region.

The map has North at the top of the screen by default. To return to this default setting after rotating the map, select Options > Tools > Align map north.

Track your position

When your speed exceeds 10 km/h (6 mph) for more than three seconds, the map moves to keep your position at the centre. Below this speed, the red dot showing your position moves but the map does not.

If you have a licence for the speed camera and speed limit services, these are active during tracking.
