Nokia Mobile Search Extends Local Search Collaboration in Asia to deliver enhanced capabilities to consumers

Singapore - Nokia today announced that it has extended local search collaborations in the Asia Pacific with key local yellow pages and directory search providers in five markets, signing on key content providers Infomedia India, TM Info-media in Malaysia, Directories Philippines Corporation, Yellow Pages (Singapore) Limited and Teleinfo Media (Thailand Yellow Pages).

Jawahar Kanjilal, Director, Multimedia Experiences, Nokia Multimedia Asia Pacific said : “Mobile Search has been very well received by users who are hungry for immediate access to information and services, and with these new local service providers onboard, Nokia is bringing more locally relevant content to users on our devices. Since Nokia Mobile Search was first announced in Aug 2005, users’ search query volumes – that is web, local as well as image searches - have grown an average of 26% month-over-month globally. In the last 12 months, we’ve seen an exponential growth of more than 300% search queries in Asia, with certain markets like India, growing as fast as 460% in search query volumes”,

With this latest announcement, Nokia is now working with more than twenty-five companies from around the world to bring Nokia Mobile Search to consumers in over forty languages.

Nokia Mobile Search is a simple, convenient, and fast way to find and connect to content you want – whether on the Internet through local service providers or search engines or already stored in your compatible device – directly from your Nokia device.

A mobile search with these engines can take several forms. You can search images, do a local search—an e-Yellow Pages—or search the Web. Some companies are creating special mobile version of their pages tailored to fit the medium’s unique requirements. Slower downloading times, compared to broadband, and tiny screen sizes put the emphasis on short, simple messages, not elaborate text and graphics.
